What Is Substance Use Treatment?
Honesty is where recovery begins
If you have tried to stop on your own and could not, that does not mean you failed. It means you were trying to overcome something that is genuinely, biologically difficult, often without the right tools.
Substance use disorders are not a character flaw. They are not a lack of willpower or a sign that you do not care enough about the people in your life. They are complex medical conditions with real, effective treatments available, and you deserve access to those treatments without having to justify yourself to anyone first.
This is a place where you can be honest about where you are. That honesty is actually where recovery begins.
Who Is This For?
Medication-assisted treatment, often called MAT, combines FDA-approved medications with clinical support to help reduce cravings, manage withdrawal, and support long-term recovery from alcohol and opioid use disorders.
This is not replacing one substance with another. These medications work on the brain and body in ways that make the pull of substances significantly weaker, giving you the space to do the harder work of recovery without fighting your own biology every single step of the way.
Medication is one part of what we offer here. The other part is a provider who will sit with you, understand your history, and help you figure out what has gotten in the way before and what might work differently this time.

What Makes Us Different?
Why this is not like other conversations you may have had
Katie has worked with substance use disorders from nearly every angle. Crisis care, inpatient, detox, rehab, and outpatient. She has seen what works and, just as importantly, she has seen what does not.
She understands that recovery is not a straight line, that relapse is not the same as failure, and that the shame and stigma around addiction often do the most damage of all.
No judgment, ever.
You can be honest here about what you are using, how much, and how long. That information helps us help you. There is no version of your story that changes the quality of care you receive.
Experience across the full spectrum.
Understanding what has not worked for people in the past, and why, is just as valuable as knowing the clinical options. We bring a range of experience to this conversation.
Medication as a tool, not a crutch.
We discuss the role medication can play in your recovery honestly and realistically, including what it can do, what it cannot do, and what else needs to be part of the picture for long-term success.
Ongoing support, not a one-time fix.
Recovery requires consistent support over time. This is not a single appointment and a prescription. It is a relationship built around your progress, your challenges, and your goals.

What To Expect
What the process looks like
Step 1:
Your Initial Evaluation (60 to 90 minutes)
We start with a comprehensive psychiatric evaluation that covers your full history, including your substance use, any prior treatment, your mental health, and your goals.
This is a conversation, not an interrogation. The more honest you can be, the better we can help.
Step 2:
Treatment Planning
Based on your evaluation, we will discuss whether medication-assisted treatment is appropriate for you, which medications might be the best fit, and what else we recommend as part of your broader recovery plan. We may also discuss referrals to therapy or outside support resources.
Step 3:
Ongoing Support
Substance use treatment is not a short-term fix. Recovery happens over time and with consistent support.
Follow-up appointments allow us to monitor your progress, adjust your treatment as needed, and stay in your corner through the harder stretches.

A Note On Shame
This is something worth saying directly
A lot of people who come to us for substance use treatment have spent years feeling like they should be able to handle this on their own. Like needing help means something bad about who they are. Like the people in their lives, or previous providers, have made them feel like this is a moral failing rather than a medical one.
We want to say clearly: it is not.
The brain changes that happen with long-term substance use are real and they are significant. Trying to overcome them through willpower alone is like trying to see clearly without your glasses. You are not weak for needing support. You are human.
You can put that weight down here.
