Katie's Story

Why she does this work

Katie's first job as a physician assistant was in a psychiatric emergency room. When they asked her in the interview why she wanted to work there, she said she felt that patients with mental health concerns did not always feel heard, and she wanted to be someone who listened.

That answer has not changed in over a decade.

She spent her first two years working crisis psychiatry in Philadelphia, seeing people at their most vulnerable and most overlooked. From there she went deeper into the field, spending years across inpatient units, detox facilities, rehab programs, and outpatient and community mental health settings. She has worked in nearly every corner of psychiatry, and in each one she saw the same thing: people who needed more time, more honesty, and more genuine connection than the system was giving them.

In 2023 she opened Restoring Balance Psychiatry and Wellness to build the kind of practice she had always believed people deserved. Longer appointments. Real conversations. A provider who picks up the phone.

Katie currently has a waitlist for new patients.

Veteran Service

Service before and after the military

Before opening her practice, Katie served in the United States Army and deployed to Afghanistan for twelve months. That experience shaped her in ways that are difficult to fully put into words, but show up every day in the way she practices.

She understands firsthand what it means to carry weight that does not have an easy name. She understands the culture around asking for help, the stigma that can come with it, and the particular kind of strength it takes to walk through a door like this one. Veterans and military families will find in Katie someone who gets it without needing it explained.

She is proud to be in network with Tricare and to serve the veteran community in Holly Springs and surrounding areas.

How She Works

Katie spends a lot of time on the why.

Why certain symptoms show up together. Why people carry what they carry. Why the things that helped us survive something difficult can sometimes become the very things that hold us back later.

She is trauma-informed in the truest sense, not just as a clinical framework, but as a genuine belief that most of what people struggle with makes complete sense when you understand the full context of their lives. She does not rush to conclusions or label people before she knows them. She sits with the complexity because she believes that is exactly what good psychiatric care requires.

Patients have told her she is the first provider who ever made them feel truly heard. She does not take that lightly. It is the standard she holds herself to every single day.
